Tottenham face competition for Chelsea star Conor Gallagher amidst interest from Atletico Madrid
According to Evening Standard, Tottenham believe Conor Gallagher will be tough to sign away from Chelsea this summer.
Spurs, Atletico Madrid, and Aston Villa are all interested in signing Gallagher and Chelsea are willing to sell the England midfielder.
However, Gallagher is said to want to stay at Chelsea and battle for his future at his childhood club, with interested teams unable to persuade him to leave Stamford Bridge.
Gallagher is with the England squad at Euro 2024 and has openly said he would put any thoughts about his future on hold until after the competition.
Overall, speculation surrounding Gallagher’s departure has subsided. We believe this is largely due to the midfielder’s involvement in the Euros with England, as well as the fact that international competitions tend to be congested during the summer.
But all of this has created the sense that his exit may not be as unavoidable as originally imagined, despite the cluster of teams enviously eyeing him. We do not doubt that rivals like Atletico are eager to test Chelsea’s limitations, but this transfer saga is likely to be a marathon rather than a sprint.

Last season, Mauricio Pochettino relied heavily on Gallagher, naming him captain on several occasions in the absence of Ben Chilwell and Reece James. However, the arrival of new head coach Enzo Maresca on July 1 will bring a natural shift in focus, although Gallagher still intends to persuade the ex-Leicester manager of his long-term Chelsea prospects.
Let’s wait and see what the future holds for Gallagher. Chelsea fans would love to see him stay at the club but will have to wait a while before knowing a definitive answer.
