Agent of Bayern star Matthijs de Ligt has contacted Chelsea over a move for the defender to Stamford Bridge
The future of Matthijs de Ligt at Bayern Munich has come under scrutiny, and it’s unlikely that the centre-back will continue at the German club, which means he will be available in the summer transfer window and has already been linked with Chelsea.
According to Fabrizio Romano, via Football. London, the Dutchman agent has spoken to the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Liverpool about a potential move to Premier League clubs after enduring an injury raven season and barely receiving time to play for Bayern with just 22 Bundesliga appearances.
Chelsea recently signed Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham, and they already have the likes of Levi Colwill, Benoit Badiashile, Trevoh Chalobah, Wesely Fofana, and Axel Disasi at the helm. We have enough depth, and adding more defenders won’t make sense unless we sell some.
Chalobah’s future remains doubtful at the club, as the Blues are open to selling him, but we still seem to have enough depth after we signed Tosin. It will be better to avoid the former Ajax defender signing, as it could create a situation where some defenders might not get minutes on the pitch.
Another issue is that Fofana has barely remained fit since he joined us, thus putting us in a situation of deciding whether to make a move or not. The 24-year-old has a price tag of €80 million, which might be affordable if we offload other defenders.
De Ligt is just 24 and is yet to enter his prime; he has all the makings to become a world-class centre-back. Since leaving Ajax, he has played for Juventus and now Bayern, and he is certainly ready to take more big steps in his career. His aggressive defending and ability to make accurate tackles are what make him a defender with a huge ceiling.

However, currently, it looks unlikely because we cannot just overcrowd our defence with aimless signings. Thus, the board should make better decisions if they feel De Ligt will be a perfect defender for us. Moreover, his background will bring significant experience at the back because at just 24 he has more experience than our current defenders.
