A View From The Bridge

Premier League rivals concerned as Chelsea look to re-sign 26-year-old as striker solution

Chelsea are considering re signing Dominic Solanke

According to HITC, Chelsea are now pondering bringing former academy player Dominic Solanke to the team next season as their search for a centre-forward continues. The Blues have prioritised the signing of a new striker in the summer transfer window.

The Blues had a few options, such as Benjamin Sesko and Victor Osimhen, but now both are unavailable to sign, and the West Londoners have now turned their attention towards signing Solanke, who had an excellent campaign, scoring 19 Premier League goals in the goals in the previous term.

Solanke, who graduated from Chelsea Academy, has become one of the hottest prospects, and given his rise last season, he could be keen to represent his former club once again. The England international’s deal has a £65 million release clause, which might be too much given that he only had one productive campaign.

However, the Blues have assessed the scheme of signing Solanke and feel he fits the team like a glove. Solanke has been one of the most talented strikers during his time at Chelsea; he won Blues’ Academy, winning their inaugural Player of the Year in 2015.

Solanke left Chelsea with a lack of trust in him and joined Liverpool. From there, he signed for Cherries, where he transformed into a most lethal striker. He also helped Bournemouth to Premier League promotion, scoring 30 goals across all events.

Solanke did take time to settle in the league, but he showed his attributes last season, and if he joins a squad that can compete for trophies, his addition to that team will make him even more potent in front of the goal. His price tag could put a question mark on whether it is worth spending that much money as he only had one good season.

However, Chelsea’s interest could also alert other Premier League clubs such as Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool. But City and Liverpool have enough options for their No.9 position while Gunners and United could try to hijack the Blues’ pursuit of Solanke.

However, Solanke joining Chelsea won’t be a big deal as he graduated from the Blues Academy and has known the club since his childhood. He has also played two seasons in the Premier League, so he seems like a better option than John Durn. Solanke is seasoned, isn’t raw, and will provide that extra finishing touch in front of the goal.
