Mauricio Pochettino viewed as 'leading contender' for national team job after settling 8-figure Chelsea pay-off
According to The Sun, former Tottenham and Chelsea manager, Mauricio Pochettino, has long been admired by England and could be ready for national team management after settling on compensation with Chelsea.
The 52-year-old is now free to take up another position in England after finally reaching an agreement with Chelsea on a severance payout following his contract termination at the club.
Talks have since continued with Pochettino to agree a pay-off with Chelsea and have now come to an agreement that will see him receive a £10m pay-off, as reported by The Sun.
Pochettino voluntarily decided to leave Chelsea after just a year in charge, having signed a two-year deal with the club.
Chelsea’s deal with Pochettino brings the club’s total expenditure for managerial changes to around £67m in the first two years of its new ownership.
The FA has yet to put up a shortlist for the next England manager, but with his experience in the nation and track record of developing young players, notably Cole Palmer at Chelsea last season, Pochettino is regarded as a top possibility.
The displaced manager is open to staying in England but is now waiting for an opportunity to open up since there are no positions available at the moment.
Pochettino might choose to wait until after England’s participation in Euro 2024 to see if a post becomes available, or he could hunt for work in Europe as well.
