Opinion: Chelsea should rush with £30m deal for in-demand proven striker to give Nicolas Jackson much-needed competition

Chelsea encounter a major setback in their bid to sign Victor Osimhen

Chelsea should push for Jonathan David signing who has an affordable release clause

Chelsea have expressed interest in signing Jonathan David and have been working behind the scenes to complete the deal as quickly as possible before any other club pounces on his acquisition. The Canadian striker enjoyed a prolific season with LOSC Lille, netting 26 goals across all competitions.

The Blues made sure that one of their top objectives would be to sign a striker to provide healthy competition to Nicolas Jackson, who joined the club last summer. However, if the Blues are seriously interested in bringing in a striker, then David will be a wise move. He has a £30 million release clause, and his deal will expire next season.

Besides the West Londoners, Manchester United, Tottenham, and West Ham are believed to be interested in signing him; thus, the Blues are set to face a battle to bring the centre-forward.

Is David a sensible signing for the Blues?

Chelsea currently don’t have enough options because their previous targets, such as Benjamin Sesko and Victor Osimhen, seem to be out of their reach after Sesko signed a new deal and Osimhen’s release clause proved to be too high.

Another candidate on the Blues list is Barcelona academy player Marc Guiu, but he is too young and hasn’t played first-team football enough for Chelsea to even consider signing him. Meanwhile, David is 24 and will be an ideal signing, providing competition for Jackson.

We cannot enter another season with the Senegalese because he is still improving his finishing technique and David has a better eye for goal, which will build good competition for both strikers to be in the starting lineup.

Chelsea have to make a quick decision before any other club hijack their signing, as United, Tottenham, and the Hammers are also interested in landing him.
