La Liga club reject Chelsea’s €40m offer for star striker; Jhon Duran continues to be an option

Atletico Madrid turn down first formal Chelsea bid for Samu Omorodion

According to Fabrizio Romano, Atlético Madrid have rejected Chelsea’s initial bid for their star striker, Samu Omorodion, which ranges from €30 million plus add-ons up to a €40 million package. The Blues have shortlisted John Duran and Omorodion as their No. 9 options for next season.

However, the Spanish side have made their decision clear on the 20-year-old’s future and want to keep the striker for next season. The youngster was loaned to Alaves and enjoyed a great season, scoring nine goals in 35 Premier League games.

The Blues want to add more options despite having Nicolas Jackson, who joined from Villarreal last season and managed to complete the campaign with a decent performance, racking up 14 goals in the Premier League. The Blues are also keen on signing Aston Villa centre-forward Duran and are currently assessing their options.

Duran was not the first choice at Villa last season and managed to score eight goals across all competitions despite not getting enough minutes on the pitch. If Chelsea are to choose between Duran and Omorodion, then the Colombian will be a wise choice.

Samu Omorodion appeared intriguing throughout the previous season. However, he seems to be somewhat similar to Durán. Unseasoned, strong, and an untrained forward. Durán’s instincts at striking and scoring goals should be preferred by Chelsea. Samu is not even comparable to Durán’s striking ability, even though he is superior in the air and with technical movements.

Chelsea are plotting move for Samu Omorodion.

Although their technical skills are nearly identical, the 20-year-old’s shooting is marginally superior. The Blues ought to choose Durán instead.

However, we must remember that Duran is obvious when it comes to striking and finishing. Duran is superior to Samu in terms of all-around striker qualities, which is why we should pick him. Someone who can come in as a sub and make the difference. We don’t see any of them benching Jackson at the moment and that might be a good thing for the club.
