Jose Mourinho seeks reunion with Chelsea superstar at Fenerbahce

Mourinho wants to reunite with Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku at Fenerbahce

Chelsea and Romelu Lukaku are likely to part ways this summer, with the two parties already agreeing to an exit clause amounting to £38 million in order to aid an amicable solution ahead of next season.

The Belgium striker spent 2023/24 on loan with AS Roma, where he arrived upon Jose Mourinho’s insistent. The Portuguese, however, was fired midway through the season and has taken over Turkish side Fenerbahce heading into 2024/25.

Mourinho wants a reunion with his former player in Istanbul, as per Caught Offside, having already worked with him at Chelsea and Manchester United as well. The player’s rich performances under The Special One are testimony to their compatibility together.

Having said that, there is also interest from Antonio Conte’s Napoli in Lukaku’s services, the report has added, with the Italian manager also someone the striker has worked with to good measure during his tenure with Inter Milan some years ago.

Three Saudi Pro League clubs, namely Al Ahli, Al Shabab and Al Qadsiah have also been linked with the former Manchester United marksman though it would not be a surprise if Lukaku wants to continue plying his trade in Europe given he is still only 31.

Fenerbahce may open talks with Chelsea if indeed they plan on giving into Mourinho’s demands in the transfer market, but they may fall short financially against the Saudi clubs as well as Napoli.

While the Turkish giants may scramble hard and eventually meet Chelsea’s asking price of £38 million, they are unlikely to be able to grant Lukaku the wage that he may be after.

The Serie A is also among the continent’s finest leagues and a move to Italy will provide Lukaku with a chance to continue to grow his collection of silverware.

Chelsea, on their part, would be least bothered by where Lukaku goes as long as they receive the appropriate funds for his sale.
