Chelsea’s star defender, Thiago Silva, returned to Brazil, where he was welcomed by Fluminense supporters at the Galeão International Airport in Rio de Janeiro before his presentation at the Maracaná.
The former Chelsea player shared pictures of his warm welcome on Instagram, with the caption:
“At 5 in the morning… still can’t believe it!
You guys are the best cheerleaders in the world! See you later at Maracanã ” accompanied by two hearts.
Despite arriving from England at 5:30 in the morning for his presentation, there was a party with flags, flares, and music. The crowd applauded the icon by calling him the best defender in Brazil and dedicated a song to him that described him as a “warrior” and a “myth.”
This celebration in Brazil was well deserved, given the star’s long-awaited return to European football following a brilliant career at AC Milan, PSG, and Chelsea.
The 39-year-old has played more than 110 games for the Brazilian national team.
Thiago Silva played his last game for Chelsea against Bournemouth. He has stated that he would return to the team at some point, most likely as a coach, as he is now counting down his final years as a player.
It is safe to say that the departure of the star centre-back could be considered a huge blow for Chelsea because he was a huge part of Chelsea’s achievements and victories.
Since arriving on a free transfer in August 2020, Thiago has made 155 appearances for the Blues, introducing several silverware to the club with the likes of Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup.
