Fabrizio Romano reveals Enzo Maresca contract details and Leicester compensation fee as Chelsea set to announce new manager ‘today’

Fabrizio Romano confirms Chelsea new manager Enzo Maresca set to sign contract until 2029

Fabrizio Romano has dropped the latest development on Chelsea’s next managerial appointment and revealed the club is set to announce Enzo Maresca today as the new head coach of the Blues and a new era will start under a different manager.

Romano further revealed Chelsea will pay Leicester City around €10 million in compensation for Maresca plus extra for staff. The Italians will ink a contract until June 2029, with an option to extend until 2030. Chelsea sacked Mauricio Pochettino despite the Blues finishing sixth in the Premier League table.

It was a surprise move from the board, as things appeared to be clicking for the club under the Argentine manager. Now the Blues are set to kick-start a new era under a new head coach this summer, and hopefully, it will be an exciting time ahead.

New era under Maresca.

One thing about Maresca is that he is an elite-minded manager who has worked under Pep Guardiola as his assistant coach at Manchester City. After departing City, he took charge of Leicester City and took them to Premier League promotion. The Italian head coach is famously known for his possession-based football, which the club board wants to see in the young squad.

Maresca also has the talent to develop young players, as he did with Romeo Lavia and Cole Palmer at Manchester City, while Cesare Casadei thrived under him during his short loan spell at Leicester. But the moment he is appointed, he will be under massive pressure because of the way Chelsea sacked Pochettino.

He will have to start from where the former Southampton manager left off, and given that the Blues are set to hand him a five-year contract, it further underlines that they are backing him and giving him enough time to turn the fortunes of the club. The current Chelsea squad has developed to some extent and has Premier League experience.

Maresca will have a tremendous task ahead of him; he must now polish their shortcomings and make certain adjustments in order to create a competitive squad that is prepared to contend for championships the following season. It should be thrilling, and the fans will hopefully welcome him with respect.
