Rising Chelsea star Cole Palmer expressed his joy after scoring his first goal for England in Monday’s 3-0 triumph over Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Gareth Southgate gave Palmer his first start for the Three Lions, and he opened the scoring at St. James’ Park with a second-half penalty, setting England up for victory. It is fair to say that the Blues star took the opportunity with both hands.
The 22-year-old took to social media to express his joy at securing his first international goal with an Instagram post, “Proud moment to start my first game tonight & score my first goal !!” accompanied by a heart.
The Chelsea forward made his debut for England and managed to score his first goal, making up for the time he lost due to an injury setback that forced him to miss two internationals in March this season. On his comeback, he made up for his lost time by scoring his first goal for his national team before being substituted.
Chelsea’s player of the season has scored in the Premier League, the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup, the Community Shield, the European Super Cup, and now for England, scoring a total of 28 goals, for two clubs and his country.
Cole Palmer’s path to becoming a vital player for Chelsea is impressive. He began his career with Manchester City, where he played two seasons as a periphery player under Pep Guardiola.
Palmer decided to transfer to Chelsea in search of more frequent first-team play. This transfer proved to be a masterstroke, as he rapidly established himself as a prominent performer for Mauricio Pochettino’s team. During his tenure at the Blues, he scored 22 goals and assisted 11 times in 35 league games in his first season.
Palmer is only the fifth player to score his first England goal from the penalty spot, along with Tommy Lawton (1938), Alf Ramsey (1951), Allan Clarke (1970), and Ivan Toney (2024).
As England prepares for the tournament, Palmer’s journey serves as an inspiration and reminder of the bright future of English football.
