A View From The Bridge

Club’s sporting director confirms there are ‘advanced negotiations’ for Chelsea and Real Madrid target

Chelsea face competition from talented full-back Pedro Lima

Chelsea are pushing to secure the signing of Sport Recife right-back Pedro Lima. They are optimistic that they will lead the line for his signing, but they are facing competition from Real Madrid.

A recent remark from the club’s sporting director, Marcelo Barros, confirms that among the Blues and Madrid, one of them is in the driving seat to secure his acquisition. The right-back, aged 17, has been a standout player for the Brazilian side.

Impressed by his performance, the Blues are set to push for his acquisition to land the fullback. Chelsea have already made plans for the teenager’s future, and once they manage to sign him, he will be loaned to the club’s sister club, Strasbourg.

However, a recent remark from the Sport Recife sporting director puts big doubts on the club’s attempt to sign him. Speaking to GiveMeSport, he said:

“There are many clubs interested. And Pedro and I have been talking to more than one club. But there are slightly more advanced negotiations with one of them.”

Who is Pedro Lima?

Lima embarked on his football journey at a very young age and started playing for local side EC Meninos da Paraíba before he joined the Sport Recife youth team. His performance saw him get rewarded with a promotion to the senior team in the 2024 season, and now his exploits have gone global, with the likes of Chelsea and Real Madrid fighting to land him.

Chelsea are pushing to sign Sport Recife star Pedro Lima.

The Blues seem to be ahead in the race, as they have agreed personal terms with the fullback. The club under Todd Boehly has shown priority towards signing young Brazilian talents after they landed Estevao Willian from Palmereias last month. Chelsea’s ambitions include signing young players in the hope of building a squad that can compete for decades to come.

Lima is just 17, and if Chelsea manages to sign him, he certainly won’t get a chance to play for the senior team, as the Blues will loan him to Strasbourg, where he can gain meaningful experience before the club feels he is ready to play for the senior team.
