Chelsea will need to find an alternative as their goalkeeping target has signed a new contract with Villareal.
As reported by Football London, Villareal goalkeeper, Filip Jorgensen who was touted to be a goalkeeping target for Chelsea has signed a new contract with the Spanish side. Talks led people to believe that the 22-year-old would become the Blues’ new goalkeeper under Enzo Maresca. However, he has committed his long-term future to the La Liga side.
Petrovic has been solid for Chelsea however, the team is in desperate need of a solid number-two goalkeeper. Petrovic can’t be expected to stay fit for the entirety of a season and if he goes down the team would be struggling to field a decent number two.
Signing Jorgensen would’ve fixed things for the Blues, however, the team will now have to find an alternative for the 21-year-old. Apart from making improvements in goal, the team also needs to sign a solid forward for next season.
Chelsea would’ve been much better off if they had a more reliable number nine last season. It would’ve led to extra goals and might’ve even helped Pochettino save his job by adding something to the trophy case. Next season will prove to be pivotal for Maresca and the Stamford Bridge crowd can be extremely quick to judge. If he doesn’t produce results things will quickly go south.
