Chelsea identify problem position in defence; linked with two players including Bournemouth star

Chelsea target Milos Kerkez and Bradley Locko to bolster defence

According to football.london, Chelsea are looking to sign a new defender this summer. As things stand, the Blues have previously been linked with two players, including Bournemouth star Milos Kerkez and Brest defender Bradley Locko.

In their quest to bolster their defense, Chelsea have been targeting young left-backs. Although no formal approach has been made, the club has scouted Kerkez and Brest’s Bradley Locko, both of whom are highly regarded within the club.

Chelsea left-back shortlist

Kerkez was first linked with Chelsea back in February. The 20-year-old joined Bournemouth last July for £15.5 million, making 33 appearances in all competitions last season. He is also set to feature at Euro 2024 after making Marco Rossi’s squad and is currently focused on his international duties with Hungary.

Brest defender Bradley Locko is another valuable target for Chelsea in the summer window. While considerably underwhelming, both players have the potential to be inspired additions to the Blues’ roster.

Chelsea to target young defenders

The 21-year-old defender has quickly established himself in the starting lineup. He has played 28 games this season and has two assists. However, he has yet to register his first goal for the club.

Locko excels both offensively and defensively. Aside from tackles, he covers a lot of territory and provides a strong defensive layer. He has strong dribbling ability and is particularly adept with crosses and through balls.

However, he can improve his finishing in front of the opposing goal. The player is highly regarded within the club, and many feel he has the potential to become one of the top left-backs in the world.

Chelsea might move on Marc Cucurella this summer if a significant offer comes along, prompting the search for a reliable backup. Locko, while not a direct replacement, could serve as a placeholder until he fully develops into a complete package.

Although the French defender lacks Premier League experience, he has ample time to grow and could be a long-term option for the Blues. However, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Borussia Dortmund are also monitoring the youngster closely.
