On the England football team’s YouTube channel, their senior combination, Jordan Pickford and Kieran Trippier, revealed that Chelsea’s Cole Palmer is yet to open up to new teammates in the England team. (via Lions’ Den Connected By EE)
When asked about the young players in the Euros group who had impressed them with their banter so far, the overall response was that they were all quiet. However, Pickford suggested, “Cole is chirpy, isn’t he?” to which Trippier responded, “Absolutely, absolutely. He’s with the City boys!”
The Chelsea forward made his debut for England and managed to score his first goal, making up for the time he lost due to an injury setback that forced him to miss two internationals in March this season. On his comeback, he seized the opportunity by scoring his first goal for his national team before being substituted.
Chelsea’s player of the season has shown remarkable consistency, scoring in the Premier League, the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup, the Community Shield, the European Super Cup, and now for England. In total, he has netted 29 goals for club and country, highlighting his significant impact and versatility across various competitions.
Palmer is only the fifth player to score his first England goal from the penalty spot, along with Tommy Lawton (1938), Alf Ramsey (1951), Allan Clarke (1970), and Ivan Toney (2024).
As England prepares for the tournament, Palmer’s journey serves as an inspiration and reminder of the bright future of English football. It’s encouraging to hear Palmer is coming out of his shell a little. considering he’s still a relatively new member of Gareth Southgate’s squad.
He also played with England stars, Kyle Walker, John Stones, and Phil Foden at Manchester City. We hope to see Palmer settle well in England since a player of his skill will likely remain a fixture for a long time.
