Chelsea owners could make a surprise move for the Gent star
Chelsea owners are hoping to seal the deal for star defender Archie Brown, who plays for KAA Gent. The 22-year-old is attracting interest from multiple European clubs, and the Blues will want to overtake them in the race for the star’s signature. This is according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
Gent is hoping to confirm the Englishman’s transfer around €8 million. The amount won’t be a big deal for the Blues if they are seriously willing to make a concrete move for him this summer.
The full-back, who rose through Derby County’s ranks, has travelled to Switzerland and Belgium in the first half of his career, which is an unusual path. He signed a €4 million contract to join CAA Gent, and he quickly made himself known as an important member of their team, making 41 appearances last season.
Brown could initially be sent to Strasbourg
Chelsea are constantly on the lookout for young, gifted players from across the globe and will make an effort to bring in players they believe could fit in, even if it is not now. They are keen to establish a multi-club model, which is why they have made some significant expenditures on players they do not immediately require.
The case with Brown is also similar; Chelsea are planning to sign him and most likely loan him straightway to sister club Strasbourg. At the French club, Brown would gain some experience and grow as a player and when the Blues see him fit to play in the Premier League, they will add him to the Chelsea squad.
BlueCo owns Strasbourg, Chelsea’s sister club; therefore, it seems to be Chelsea’s tactic to bring in more international youth players and loan them directly to the French team to help with their development.
With the talent that the 22-year-old carries, it is for his good that he moves to Chelsea, as it will provide the Englishman with an elite stage to gain some important experience that will make him grow into a quality defender in the future.

Understandably, Strasbourg is interested in him since he demonstrated his ability to perform on the continent and adapt to new environments. This would include him in the BlueCo ecosystem, whether or not it is explicitly intended for him to eventually join Chelsea.
