Chelsea learn how much they need to pay to sign 24-year-old World Cup winner

Chelsea learn Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez price tag

Chelsea have emerged as the latest club to show interest in Manchester City star Julian Alvarez, who has asked for more minutes at the club and could leave the club if he continues to remain the second option under Pep Guardiola.

According to Marca, via Metro, the Argentine is aware that he will be behind Erling Haaland, and with speculations emerging, he could leave the city. Atletico Madrid were the first to make their interest known, but City rejected an approach from them.

It is understood that the interested clubs will have to shell out €80 million (£67.9 million) before add-ons can sign the striker, and the Blues could move for the 24-year-old, who might not wait to remain at City and join another club.

Cheslea and City have done transfer business many times, and lastly, they signed Cole Porter from City, while the recent Premier League champions signed Mateo Kovacic. However, it could prove challenging for the Blues to bring the former River Plate striker, but Todd Boehly is set to test City’s mettle.

At any club, Alvarez would be a preferred striker as long as Haaland is not in the team because, at 24, the Argentine is ready to show his striking ability. Alvarez is not only good in the box, but he is also an excellent player during build-up and will suit Enzo Maresca’s style.

He is Premier League-ready and has better finishing, better use of the ball, and more in-game intelligence. He also has his teammates Palmer and Fernandez at the club, so it shouldn’t take him time to settle into the league. Instead of going for a striker who doesn’t play in the Premier League, signing Alvarez will be one of the wisest decisions the club can make.

Now it all comes down to how much the city are willing to accept. The Blues should negotiate his fee and try to lower it, and if he manages to sign, then it will be a huge coup for the West Londoners as Alvarez elevates our game and makes us more potent in front of the box.
