A View From The Bridge

Chelsea is open to selling 24-year-old defender who doesn’t want Stamford Bridge exit

Chelsea is keen on selling their key defender, despite his interest in staying

Trevoh Chalobah, a key defender, believes that Stamford Bridge is where his future lies, but The Athletic is claiming that Chelsea is open to bids for the player. Chalobah does not seem to fit Maresca’s out-of-the-back playing style, according to Chelsea.

After rising through the youth ranks, he made his senior football debut in 2018 during the first of three loan stints. He then came back to Chelsea to join Thomas Tuchel‘s squad for the opening game of the 2021–2022 season, where he made an immediate impression at the back with a combination of calmness and passion.

Chalobah has been a vital part of the Blue squad since his tenure with the senior team, appearing for them 80 times and playing a huge role in some of the club’s silverware, including the UEFA Super Cup.

The 24-year-old has been on Chelsea’s selling list for quite a while now, as the club needs to raise funds before June 30 in order to avoid a PSR breach. Being a homegrown player, Chalobah will result in pure profit for the Blues; hence, they might have to let him go this summer.

Chalobah already has interests from across the world, including Fulham, who is keen on securing his services this summer. According to Athletic’s report, Chelsea is ready to negotiate with interested clubs to meet at the “right price.”

Chalobah’s departure seems to be a risky gamble

It is understandable that Chelsea have put themselves in an awkward position of having to meet with the PSR regulations but it is unfortunate that they have to sell a regular first-team player like Chalobah for that reason.

Chalobah wants to continue his Chelsea journey

Despite the fact that Chalobah is evidently a good ball-playing centre-back and is also keen on staying at Stamford Bridge, he still most likely would need to depart his fanboy club. Chelsea fans would be highly upset with the decision.

More Chelsea news

After acquiring Tosin Adarabioyo, the departure of Chalobah seems even more likely to happen. It will be intriguing to see how the Blues and Enzo Maresca manage the squad after these upcoming changes.
