Chelsea shift focus as interest in Premier League forward John Duran cools
According to Football.London, Chelsea have lost interest in Premier League forward Jhon Duran. The club has reservations about the pursuit of the South American star and have chosen to seek alternative solutions.
With Duran presumably off the table, Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion looks to be the most likely alternative for Chelsea.
Chelsea have been famous for their massive spending under owner Todd Boehly in the last two years, but aside from a late onslaught in the second half of the Premier League campaign last season, they are yet to reach the heights expected of them after spending a large sum of money on up-and-coming players.
The Chelsea squad may have changed by the time the season begins. Profitability and sustainability rules mean that the Blues may have to sell certain players, with Conor Gallagher, who is presently on international duty, being linked with a transfer elsewhere.
Ultimately, it is hard to imagine Duran starting the 2024–25 season as Chelsea’s first choice, with a move to the player now looking unlikely.
Duran would have to replace Nicolas Jackson in the starting lineup if he joined Maresca, but you can’t help but think that with one of the most tight-knit squads in the country under Emery, he would be better served at Villa Park, where he would almost certainly play Champions League football.

However, the promise is unlikely to propel Chelsea back into the Champions League in Enzo Maresca’s debut season with the club. Yes, the Italian could use a fresh centre-forward in his lineup, but he can certainly do with someone more experience with Duran.
