Chelsea are interested in signing Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak
According to Spanish outlet Sport, Chelsea have sounded their interest in Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak, who could be available in the summer window, as the Spanish giants are open to selling him. Oblak has been Atletico’s stalwart and has remained at the club for over a decade.
He has been one of the best goalies in the league, and now his future remains uncertain at the club. Meanwhile, the Blues are looking to bring an upgrade between the sticks despite signing Robert Sanchez and Dorde Petrovic last season.
They also sent Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan to Real Madrid, and the Spanish goalie is set to return to the club after Real opted to not retain the 29-year-old. Thus, before signing any custodian, the Blues will have to free up space as they already have three starting goalkeepers in the squad.
The Blues might get rid of Kepa, who showed no intention of continuing at Chelsea and was open to a permanent move to Real. Meanwhile, new manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed he wants Sanchez to continue at the club as he feels he can get the best out of the former Brighton & Hove Albion goalie.
Consequently, it doesn’t seem like a good idea to go for a goalkeeper this summer. We have Petrovic as a backup goalie if Sanchez returns to form, giving us good choices for the No.1, while Kepa might be shown the exit door.
Because Maresca plays possession football, we will require a custodian with exceptional distribution skills. Only Sanchez plays reasonably from the back, though Petrovic needs to get better at it. Aside from that, he has excellent ball-stopping qualities.

Even if we bring in a new goalkeeper, we need to sell at least two custodians to make room for a new signing. Let’s wait and see what the club decides.
