Champions League-bound Aston Villa enter the race to sign key Chelsea superstar

Aston Villa join Tottenham Hotspur in the race for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher

According to the BBC, Champions League-bound club Aston Villa are interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher. Gallagher’s future at the club continues to be doubtful, as a number of sides are keen on signing the midfielder.

The Blues have made their feelings clear on the sale of Gallagher and feel his exit will help the club financially following his strong end to the season. His performance has seen him attract many clubs, and one thing is for sure: he isn’t short on suitors, with Tottenham Hotspur also keen on signing the 24-year-old.

Chelsea have also qualified for the European Conference League and will have to factor Premier League profit and sustainability rules into their summer activity. Besides Gallagher, Trevoh Chalobah, left-back Ian Maatsen, and forward Armando Broja are among those who could be sold by Chelsea as they look to make a pure profit.

Gallagher was a different player last season under Mauricio Pochettino and showed he is capable of being a Chelsea player. He was also their captain for the majority of the campaign after injuries to Reece James and Ben Chilwell.

His performance has also been acknowledged, which has improved his value throughout the transfer window and will undoubtedly benefit the club monetarily. Even if he leaves the club’s midfielder depth won’t suffer as the Blues midfield is loaded with the likes of Romeo Lavia, Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandes and Lesley,

Even if Gallagher departs, the team may still make a summer acquisition of a midfield player. The Villains will be competing in the Champions League, therefore they will require a player with an elite competition background as well as additional depth in the squad.

Aston Villa joins race to sign Conor Gallagher.

The interested parties highly regard Gallagher, therefore Chelsea stands to gain financially from selling him. However, transferring him has drawbacks as well because of his unique qualities that set him apart from other midfielders. His relentless pressing and ability to recover possession give the squad a lot of vitality.

The Blues will lose a top-quality player if they sell him. Moreover, the fans will also be discontent with the Chelsea decision, as they feel Gallagher is a core part of the squad.
