Bayern Munich considering shock swoop for homegrown Chelsea defender

Bayern Munich targets Chelsea’s Colwill amid uncertainty over Tah transfer

According to Sky Sport Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Bayern’s priority for a centre-back this summer is Jonathan Tah, but they are considering Chelsea’s centre-back Levi Colwill if they are unable to recruit Tah this summer.

The Bundesliga giants are interested in Tah but a decision on his future is unlikely until after the Euros, and Bayer Leverkusen are hoping to keep him. So, if Bayern fail to sign the German international, they are likely to make a move for Colwill.

Reporter claims Munich considers signing Levi Colwill as backup

Colwill might be Bayern’s best option at centre-back, especially given his left-footedness. Bayern does not presently have this style of centre-back.

Chelsea will benefit from the sale of Colwill under Premier League PSR regulations since he is a product of the club’s junior programme and will be sold for pure profit.

It will be difficult to see the Blues sell Colwill, as they rate him highly and want to keep him for their project considering his breakthrough season with the Blues, in which he played 23 Premier League games but suffered a toe injury that kept him out for the rest of the season.

Colwill, at just 21, has shown great maturity and has the ability to become a top defender for the club. But anything can happen in the transfer window because if Bayern decide to pay a great deal, the Blues might get convinced to sell him.

In order to comply with Premier League FFP, the club will have to sell some homegrown players to generate revenue, and if the Blues receive a tempting offer, then a decision could be made on Colwill’s future. For financial reasons, we saw the club sell Mason Mount to United last season.

The loanee’s present agreement does not expire until 2029, but the left-footed defender may be leaving this summer since Chelsea is already planning to sell some homegrown players, with Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah already up for sale.
