Arsenal have 2 advantages over Chelsea in Benjamin Sesko race as journo assesses ‘real possibilty’ of RB Leipzig stay

Arsenal’s advantage over Chelsea for Benjamin Sesko post his stay at RB Leipzig

According to journalist David Ornstein, Arsenal has two major advantages over Chelsea in the pursuit of signing the RB Leipzig striker, Benjamin Sesko, who has extended his contract with RB Leipzig this summer. (via The Athletic)

The North London club offers Champions League football and consistency under manager Mikel Arteta, which makes them a strong contender in the Premier League, both of which Chelsea and United lack. However, there is a very real possibility that Sesko may stay at Leipzig, which poses a greater danger to Arsenal’s aspirations than his moving elsewhere in the Premier League.

Journalist analysis of Sesko’s stay

Even before it was revealed that Benjamin Sesko would remain at RB Leipzig, Arsenal was cautious, believing they had laid the basis for a deal for Mykhailo Mudryk last summer, only to be outbid by Chelsea. Their successful bid to capture Declan Rice needed them to beat out late opposition from Manchester City.

Sesko’s choice to reject Arsenal was not motivated merely by the prospect of rapid success.

The 21-year-old understands that he is still in the early phases of his career and is not yet a top striker. Comparisons to Erling Haaland, another towering forward with scorching pace, showcase Sesko’s abilities.

Sesko’s new contract set to extend RB Leipzig stay by 1yr to 2029

However, he has not equalled Haaland’s prolific scoring record in the Bundesliga. Sesko’s ball abilities may even top Haaland’s, but his Champions League performances have demonstrated that he still has potential to improve.

Leipzig would have made a huge profit if Sesko had chosen to join another club owing to his release clause. However, they have left themselves the option of increasing his worth and negotiating a better contract later.

Leipzig provides Sesko with the setting and opportunity to develop into a top-tier attacker.

Last season, he competed for a starting berth behind the team’s key striker, Lois Openda. His perseverance paid off in the second part of the season, cementing his starting spot. Now in his second season with Leipzig, the club has guaranteed him a crucial position.
