Worry for Chelsea as Manchester United could hunt their centre-back as Jarrad Branthwaite alternative

Manchester United could turn to Chelsea star Levi Colwill if they fail to sign Jarrad Branthwaite

According to the Daily Star, Manchester United are targeting Chelsea defender Levi Colwill as an alternative to Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite. However, they are facing a big issue as the Toffees are demanding a big fee of around £80 million, which could lead to United turning elsewhere.

However, United have valued the England international at £60 million, which could lead to both clubs failing to agree to terms. And now the Red Devils have Blues centre-back Colwill on their radar. Raphael Varane bid farewell to United during their 2-1 win over Manchester City, and the club is looking to find his replacement.

Meanwhile, Colwill enjoyed a breakthrough season with the Blues, playing 23 Premier League games, but suffered a toe injury that kept him out for the rest of the season. It will be difficult to see the Blues sell Colwill, as they rate him highly and want to keep him for their project.

Colwill, at just 21, has shown great maturity and has the ability to become a top defender for the club. But anything can happen in the transfer window because if United decide to pay a great deal, the Blues might get convinced to sell him.

In order to comply with Premier League FFP, the club will have to sell some homegrown players to generate revenue, and if the Blues receive a tempting offer, then a decision could be made on Colwill’s future. For financial reasons, we saw the club sell Mason Mount to United last season.

Before the start of the next transfer window, the club is already planning to sell some homegrown players as they have put Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah up for sale. We might see players leaving the club if the club feels they need to make more profit in order to remain within the rules of FFP.

More Chelsea news

Since the 21-year-old is the team’s future defender and has the potential to be one of our most significant academy centre-backs, United will have to search elsewhere as it seems not likely that Chelsea will sell the England international.
