According to football.london, Tottenham Hotspur’s Timo Werner is facing the rest of the season on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury, ruling him out of the upcoming clash against former club Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Werner, on loan from RB Leipzig, has had a mixed spell with Spurs, contributing two goals and three assists in the Premier League. Despite his brief tenure, the forward had the chance for a reunion at Stamford Bridge, where he previously played for Chelsea, winning the Champions League before returning to Leipzig.
However, his return to face his former club in Tottenham colours has been dashed by his unfortunate injury setback. While he is far from a certain starter for the Lilywhites, the fewer options Ange Postecoglou has, the better for us.
Before the clash against Chelsea, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou confirmed the Werner injury, (h/t Football.London), and told the reporters:
‘’Not good. We’ve had a couple of injuries. Timo with his hamstring. With only two to three weeks or so left, he’ll miss the rest of the season. Ben Davies got a calf injury in the game, and that’s the rest of his season. Skippy should be back.’’
Werner has always had the potential in him and Chelsea fans will be well aware of it. But inconsistency and injuries have seen him fall away from the limelight in recent years. With him now out for the rest of the season, it remains to be seen if Spurs will sign him on permanently.
Werner’s return to London hasn’t resulted in a significant impact, but the forward has been a notable threat for Tottenham’s Australian manager. His ability to operate on the wing and draw defenders to create space for teammates has been particularly valuable. While he may not excel in finishing, his desire to succeed is still as strong as ever.
Brennan Johnson is expected to step in, offering another formidable threat from the wing in Werner’s absence. Despite Werner’s injury, Tottenham, under the guidance of Postecoglou, have undergone a significant transformation. This was evident in their spirited attempt to rally from behind against Arsenal, despite ultimately falling short with a 3-2 loss. To secure victory against this resurgent Spurs side, Mauricio Pochettino’s tactical execution will need to be precise and meticulous.
