Chelsea’s season has been a bit of a rollercoaster ride. Under Mauricio Pochettino’s guidance, they’ve been going through a transitional phase, and at one point, it looked like they might just end up in mid-table mediocrity. But lately, they’ve been on a tear, winning three games in a row and really hitting their stride and at the core of that has been Cole Palmer.
According to Simon Jordan, who’s been chatting about it on talkSPORT’s YouTube channel, Palmer has really stepped up his game recently. Despite initial reservations, Jordan reckons Palmer has taken his performance to a whole new level.
“I kind of had reservations about him initially because I thought there’s no way that Guardiola lets him go because he can’t manage the kid’s expectations.
“And then I’ve seen in the last six weeks an acceleration in Cole Palmer.
“I thought he was doing well but in recent performances, he’s gone to a different level.”
Palmer made the switch from Manchester City over the summer, and his impact at Chelsea hasn’t gone unnoticed. In fact, he has transformed Chelsea totally. Even though the league standings don’t reflect it, he actually has. In just 43 appearances across all competitions, he has a staggering 24 goals and provided 14 assists. That’s some serious output!
Jordan even suggests that Palmer could be one of the first names on the England team sheet right now, which is saying something. But there’s a bit of a conundrum for Gareth Southgate – he’s got to figure out how to fit Palmer into his preferred role, number 10, especially with Jude Bellingham excelling at Real Madrid.
It’s a tricky situation for Southgate, no doubt about it. But with Palmer’s recent form and those jaw-dropping stats, he’s definitely giving the gaffer something to think about with the Euros looming on his head.
Despite the challenges, Palmer’s recent performances have left an indelible impression on both club and international stages. His ability to consistently deliver standout performances and contribute decisively to Chelsea’s success has firmly established him as a linchpin of Pochettino’s side. What’s yet to be seen is whether or not it still remains Pochettino’s side six months from now.
With his recent performances propelling him to new heights, he has firmly established himself as a force to be reckoned with in English football. As he continues to excel on the pitch, the future looks exceedingly bright for both Palmer and Chelsea alike. We can only hope for the higher-ups to trust Pochettino for as long as possible though because he seems to have unlocked Palmer’s untapped potential.
