The Italian reporter, Fabrizio Romano, explains the reality of Chelsea’s managerial situation and the future of their current boss, Mauricio Pochettino. Many speculations have been made stating that Pochettino will be judged at the end of the season. At the moment, his position swings between safe and not safe with every step towards the end of this season.
It appears Chelsea is currently in a reactive mode, as is evident. Instead of knowing they need to hire a new coach and actively looking for someone to fill the position, they are waiting to see what the future holds for them, unlike this time last year.
Chelsea have previously made the mistake of being impatient to get good results instantly and continuously sacking their managers just after one year of their tenure. Too many managerial changes lead to difficulties regarding the players settling in with the new bosses and their game-related techniques.
It is no secret that Chelsea was in a worse situation last season, finishing in 12th place in the Premier League standings with only 44 points. Pochettino has helped the Blues grow a lot, fixing their mistakes and leading in the right way. The boss deserves a little more time to bring the best out of the Blues.
In his recent Daily Briefing column, Fabrizio Romano wrote:
“It’s going to be discussed at the end of the season. I think it’s a really open situation. At the moment, nothing has been decided in a sense or another, but it’s a really open situation in the sense that Pochettino, the directors, the owners, all together will discuss closer to the end of the season. And in that moment, they will decide about the future.”
“At the moment, I think it’s similar to what’s happening with Erik Ten Hag at Manchester United. Pochettino is being involved in conversations for the summer transfer window, for the future play conversation they will have closer to the end of the season. The final weeks of May is going to be really important to understand the future of Pochettino and in that case, what kind of decision Chelsea want to make.”
Although this season is also no achievement for the Blues, they already have 51 points and currently sit in eighth place in the Premier League standings with four games remaining. Pochettino has already brought them to a better version of themselves and a little more time could see the boss bringing them to their best.
Chelsea squad is keen for their boss to stay at the club. The players already realise that Chelsea’s form is nothing to completely blame on Pochettino and another managerial change would rather worsen the club’s situation with the team going through the whole adapting process again.
The 52-year-old manager does not currently have any decisive power over his future. All the Argentine can do is prepare his side as best as possible for their remaining four games of the season in the hope of impressing the Chelsea brass. They will now take on West Ham on Sunday, May 5.
