Fabrizio Romano on Daily Briefing has broken the news on Chelsea defender Thiago Silva’s future and confirmed the defender has agreed to join Brazilian club Fluminense on a two-year deal. The 39-year-old confirmed in an emotional video that he will leave the Blues after the end of the season.
Silva played for Fluminense between 2006 and 2008 before joining AC Milan, where he rose to prominence and subsequently joined Paris Saint-Germain, where he played for them for 12 years before joining Chelsea in 2020.
The Brazilian came as an unpopular figure at the club, but his performance intrigued fans and people alike, and the former AC Milan became a most prominent player at the club, where he spent five years and was the mainstay in Chelsea’s starting lineup.
Despite agreeing to a two-year contract with Brazilian side Silva, his announcement won’t be made formally out of respect for Chelsea, where he still has a few matches left to play before he leaves the club. Fluminense beat the likes of Saudi sides and other London clubs to secure the signing of their former player. He will see out his contract at Chelsea but could reportedly be permitted to travel to Brazil to seal the deal.
This season, the Brazilian’s final games for the Blues will be filled with many emotions. It would have been better if we presented him with some silverware, but we will still hope for a better sendoff because of the exceptional time at the club.
Chelsea will thank Silva for his service to the club, where he established himself as one of the legends in such a short time. It takes players decades to become legendary players in fans’ eyes, but the Brazilian was an instant hit given the passion and commitment he showed on the pitch and also helped young players this season.
Silva made a good decision to return to Brazil, where he will spend a few years before calling his retirement. He can at least get to play for his childhood club, from where he emerged and broke into European football. Hopefully, he will return from injury before the end of the season and participate in the last few matches, where he will say farewell to Chelsea fans.
