A View From The Bridge

Report: Kieran McKenna tells friends who he wants to join amid Manchester United and Chelsea interest

Kieran McKenna made honest confession about his priority among United and Chelsea

According to reports from Football Insider, Despite having discussions with Chelsea and Brighton, Kieran McKenna has revealed to his friends that he is waiting to accept the Man United manager’s position.

Chelsea has been in constant manager searching since the sudden departure of their boss Mauricio Pochettino. The Blues have a number of targets on their list with McKenna being one of them.

With Manchester United’s boss Erik Ten Hag’s future remaining uncertain, the Red Devils are keen on securing the services of the highly-rated Ipswich boss. McKenna is most likely eager to take the next step in his career and while Ipswich will attempt to tie him down to a new contract, he is ready to move on.

Chelsea do realise the situation with McKenna being willing to join United if the position becomes available and as a result, the Blues withdrew their interest in the 38-year-old Ipswich sensation.

According to reports by The Metro, the two candidates left to follow Pochettino are Thomas Frank of Brentford and Enzo Maresca, the manager of Leicester City. Additionally, Roberto De Zerbi is also still closely associated with the part.

After joining United in 2016 as head coach of the Under-18 team, McKenna transitioned into a senior position, working as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s and Jose Mourinho’s assistant until taking over at Ipswich in 2021.

McKenna is no longer the leading candidate to replace Pochettino

Chelsea is focused on bringing in a quality manager as soon as possible so that they can continue with their transfer market plans. The sudden sacking of Pochettino has made the club upside down with a lot of work they have to do before the commencement of next season.

More Chelsea news

Chelsea is a club with a lot of expectations of title-winning capabilities. The upcoming manager must be careful to live up to those expectations. If the next boss failed in doing so then we might see another early managerial sacking.
