A View From The Bridge

Report: Chelsea willing to take £62.5m hit on flop to offboard him permanently this summer

Chelsea willing to take big hit on Romelu Lukaku

Chelsea FC are looking to take a financial hit by selling striker Romelu Lukaku this summer and are willing to let go of his services for £35 million, per Football Insider.

The former Everton striker will return to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season following the conclusion of his loan spell at AS Roma, and the Blues are looking for a more permanent solution for the Belgian international. The 31-year-old is not part of the plans under Mauricio Pochettino, and his hefty wages mean that the West Londoners would be looking to move him on for good.

Lukaku & his future beyond Roma

Financial hit inevitable as Chelsea slash price tag for Lukaku exit.

Lukaku has a contract with Chelsea until 2026 after he made a headline return to his former employers in 2021 in a £97.5 million move. It did not work out for Lukaku at the Bridge, and he has had loan spells with Inter Milan and Roma since. In his latest loan in the Italian top-tier, he has a tally of twelve goals and three assists in 31 appearances this season.

Selling him for £35 million means the Blues will likely take a £62.5 million hit on his transfer.

The reports depict that his future at Roma doesn’t lie beyond the current loan deal, as they would not prefer to sign him owing to the hefty price tag that Chelsea demands. So Lukaku’s future lies beyond the city of Rome, and it is to be seen which club is ready to live up to Chelsea’s financial demands for the 31-year-old.

Lukaku’s Chelsea nightmare continues.

The Blues are expecting a busy transfer window with ample outgoings expected owing to FFP compliance, which could force Chelsea to sell, while the off-season also comes as a chance to regroup for an inconsistent side that had an underwhelming campaign this season.
