A View From The Bridge

‘Ciao’- Pochettino passes the buck to the Chelsea board as ‘stupid rumours’ continue afloat

Mauricio Pochettino urges the people to ask Chelsea board if they want to keep next season

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino seems to have reached a breaking point with the constant speculation about his future, redirecting inquiries about his potential sacking to the Blues board. Despite the ongoing rumours, the Argentine manager still has one more year remaining on his Chelsea contract.

Throughout the season, Pochettino’s tenure at Chelsea has been under scrutiny due to the team’s mixed results. While he has faced both criticism and praise for his work, his first campaign as Chelsea manager has been commendable, considering the challenges he has encountered. The squad has been plagued by injuries and consists mainly of inexperienced players.

Following Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, they now sit eighth in the Premier League table. With only three points separating them from sixth place, securing a European spot is within reach if they continue to perform well in their remaining matches.

However, Pochettino’s recent remarks on his sacking have irked him and the former Spurs head coach urged the fans and reporters to directly ask the club board, speaking to the media, he further said via Fabrizio Romano:

“I’ve had enough of these stupid rumours. You need to ask the club whether it wants me to keep going or not. If I have one more year on my contract here and no one says anything, then I suppose that I am going to be here. If there’s a decision and someone says to me ‘ciao’, okay. But we don’t know at the moment.”.

It is fair to say that Pochettino has had enough of distractions off the field. In the end, the decision after all lies with the board. It is best that we allow the Argentine to work his magic on the field than worry about things that are not in his control.

Mauricio Pochettino hopes to continue at Chelsea for next season.

Pochettino deserves the opportunity for another season based on what he has achieved so far. He inherited a squad that was in disarray, with players struggling both physically and mentally, lacking confidence and stability.

Under Pochettino’s guidance, Chelsea has shown signs of improvement, despite the challenges they’ve faced throughout the season. His ability to instill confidence and belief in his players has been evident, and he has managed to steer the team through difficult periods. Given more time and support from the board, Pochettino has the potential to continue building on the progress made and lead Chelsea to further success in the future.

The challenges posed by injuries further compounded Pochettino’s task, as he grappled with a lack of a fully fit squad to implement his preferred tactics. Despite these obstacles, he demonstrated adaptability and resourcefulness, adjusting his approach to maximize the potential of his available players. Looking ahead to next season, Pochettino stands to improve significantly with the addition of experienced players in key areas.

This season, Chelsea came agonizingly close to securing silverware, narrowly missing out on victory in the Carabao Cup final and falling short in the semi-finals of the FA Cup. With a strengthened squad and Pochettino’s continued guidance, the team could mount a more formidable challenge for trophies in the upcoming campaigns.
