Mauricio Pochettino reveals he had a dinner with the Chelsea owner on Friday night to discuss his future. The 52-year-old helped the Blues secure a European spot for next season, finishing sixth in the table after Chelsea beat Bournemouth 2-1.
For much of the season, Chelsea endured mixed results and languished in the 10th spot, which appeared to be another poor season for the club, but they seemed to have picked up the pace at the right time and went on to win the last five matches of the campaign.
With the season over, the board will have plenty of important decisions to make ahead of the transfer window and on the future of Pochettino. The Argentine will hope to complete his Chelsea contract, as he has another season left on his Chelsea deal.

“I’m really happy. But the questions about the future are for owners and directors, not me. On Friday night, Todd Boehly invited me for dinner, and it was a nice dinner together. I don’t know about the rumours!”.
Who do we bring next season, even if we fire Pochettino? Is there a manager more capable of absorbing the board’s and supporters’ pressure and achieving results? Despite his slow start, Poch has demonstrated his tactical flexibility. Many, including us, had given up on seeing any progress, yet he showed up and led the team to sixth place. He deserves our respect.
The players’ admiration and desire to play for him is what really shines out. That is not to be taken lightly. It is crucial to have your players support you at all times. It’s not a given that a new boss will have the same impact and won’t cause problems.
Even if it currently appears that Chelsea will succeed, things could go wrong and they could fall behind next season. It’s highly likely. Giving Poch a few players he wants—those he believes would improve his starting XI and add experience and stability—is, in our opinion, the only way to continue rising. In addition, even when we really need money, we should fight the temptation to sell key players.
