Raheem Sterling shared a wholesome photo of him with his family after the last match of the season on Instagram with a blue heart emoji. Sterling was on the scoresheet as Chelsea beat Bournemouth 2-1 to wrap up the tournament strongly and finish sixth in the table.
Reacting to his photo Manchester United duo Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho commented with a red heart emoji on their compatriot photo. Sancho, who is on loan at Borussia Dortmund, will play in the Champions League against Real Madrid on June 1 alongside Chelsea loanee Ian Maatsen.
The Blues managed to secure a European spot for next season, which was one of the club’s objectives. However, for much of the season, it didn’t appear realistic, but under Mauricio Pochettino’s leadership, the club went on to win the last five matches of the campaign and achieve their goal.
Meanwhile, Sterling had a fair season. The forward had a mix of positive and negative performances this year, as he was inconsistent and spent the majority of the second half of the season coming off the bench.
In his second season with Chelsea, Sterling scored 10 goals and provided 8 assists in all competitions, with 8 of the goals coming from the Premier League. The forward, who had promised to finish the season as Chelsea’s leading scorer couldn’t live up to his promise.
Now the Blues will be busy in the summer window, and certainly, there will be a lot of outgoings. There have been speculations that Chelsea may sell the England international in the transfer market. Not only he but his compatriots have endured poor campaigns with their respective teams, as Rashford failed to imitate last season’s form while Sancho was loaned to Dortmund before he found his footing.
Many things will happen in the summer window, and we will see many unexpected decisions, so let’s brace ourselves for another rollercoaster summer window at Chelsea.
