A View From The Bridge

Manchester City’s Kyle Walker in awe of Chelsea star’s ‘football brain’, says he is the complete defender

Kyle Walker says Chelsea right-back Reece James is one the best full-backs

Manchester City star Kyle Walker has praised Reece James’ traits and feels the Chelsea full-back boasts all the qualities to be one of the best right-backs. Reece James has been among the top emerging Chelsea academy players in the past few years.

The 24-year-old was given the captain’s armband last campaign, but due to injuries, he was barely available for the matches. James’ hamstring injury intensified, which made him opt for surgery, keeping him out for many months.

However, the fullback played just two games and ended the season on another dismal note. Next season, he is set to play under a new manager, and the full-back will hope to remain fit as Chelsea will aim to challenge for the silverware next campaign under Enzo Maresca.

James attributes makes him an influential player because a player like him always makes a difference in every game, and when Walker was asked who he feels is the best right-back, the City star named his compatriot James and told his Podcast:

“Reece James. He’s just got everything. Everything. If I could make a complete right-back, it would be him. Defend, attack, technically, both-footed, dead-ball situations, quick.’’

Walker is precisely correct when he says that James is a complete player, and it is quite uncommon to find a guy that can both attack and defend at the same time. Injuries have prevented James, a generational talent, from demonstrating his powers.

Chelsea captain Reece James will hope to remain fit next season.

Once he leaves them behind, we will see him become one of the top fullbacks. His football IQ is something else, and we saw it against Nottingham Forest when he returned from a long-term injury and instantly made an impact with an assist-winning goal.

All he needs is to remain fit, and we are going to see one of the best James performances week in and week out. Next season we will be massive for both players and Maresca and we hope that we will have fully fit squad ready to challenge fo the silverware.
