Leicester City fails to retain Enzo Maresca as they are giving in to Chelsea’s demands
Chelsea’s top candidate to replace Mauricio Pochettino as the new boss of the club, Enzo Maresca, is finally around the corner as the Blues are ready to advance talks with the Leicester City boss.
In his first season in charge this season, Maresca led Leicester to the Championship and a promotion back to the Premier League, and his achievements have spurred Chelsea’s owners to formally pursue the 44-year-old’s hiring.
The Blues are in advanced discussions to hire the Italian, having formally requested permission to meet with him recently. The Leicester manager will cost Chelsea over £10 million in compensation.
Recent reports by the trusted journalist David Ornstein claim that Leicester City has finally decided to give up and accepts Chelsea’s formal request to talk with their boss for the head coach vacancy. He further reported that Enzo will accept a minimum of 5-year contract to join the Blues.
In conversations with his representation, the Blues liked Maresca’s depth and breadth of knowledge of their team as well as his unwavering concentration on the kind of play Chelsea wants to play and his enthusiasm for the position.
Due to his fixation with positional play and possession, the 44-year-old is the front-runner to succeed Pochettino. With the arrival of a final official settlement with Leicester regarding compensation, an official appointment might happen within the following several days.
Chelsea have seen a title-less spree last season and they certainly are desperate to earn their UCL-winning respect back. While it may be an unwise decision to sack Pochettino in only his debut season while he was certainly making some improvements, they now must choose their next boss wisely.
