Jose Mourinho reveals the reason behind him not watching Chelsea games

Jose Mourinho, the former Chelsea manager renowned for his remarkable success at the club, has revealed why he chooses not to attend any of Chelsea’s matches despite living just “two minutes” away from Stamford Bridge. Mourinho, often referred to as the ‘Special One,’ boasts an illustrious record at Chelsea, having clinched three Premier League titles, three League Cups, and an FA Cup during his tenure.

Despite his close proximity to the stadium, Mourinho has opted to stay away from Chelsea matches. His decision stems from the club’s struggles under Mauricio Pochettino this season, with supporters at Stamford Bridge expressing their longing for Mourinho’s return. Following a 2-2 draw with Brentford in March, chants of the Portuguese’s name reverberated throughout the stadium, reflecting the fans’ desire to see their legendary manager back at the helm.

Mourinho’s reluctance to attend Chelsea matches underscores the complex emotions surrounding his legacy at the club and the enduring connection between the manager and the supporters. While Mourinho’s presence continues to evoke fond memories of past glories, his decision to stay away reflects a desire to maintain a respectful distance amidst Chelsea’s current challenges under new management.

Recent rumors suggested that Mourinho was being considered for a third stint as the Blues’ manager in light of the growing strain on current manager Mauricio Pochettino. Speaking on this, Mourinho told Portuguese outlet A Bola (h/t Metro):

“I’ve always kept myself apart from any unethical behavior. In London, I live two minutes from Chelsea’s stadium, from my house you can hear the goals and people’s demonstrations. The day the stadium started singing my name, I stopped going to football. I have to go to other stadiums.”

“It takes 20-30 minutes from my [other] house to [Benfica’s stadium] Luz. I went to two or three games. They started asking questions like [will you become manager] and I’m not going anymore. They screwed my life up with those questions.”

Mourinho’s managerial journey has hit a pause since January when Roma parted ways with him. The seasoned manager has made it clear that any potential new role would require a “good training centre” as part of the package. Despite his availability, Mourinho hasn’t received any communication from Portuguese teams regarding a managerial position.

His decision to stop attending Chelsea matches after supporters started chanting his name at Stamford Bridge illustrates the complexity of his relationship with the club and its fans.

Mourinho’s stance reflects his desire to avoid unnecessary speculation and attention, particularly amidst his connections with Chelsea. The chants from fans, coupled with ongoing rumors about his potential return to the club, have led him to distance himself from attending Chelsea’s matches. This decision underscores his preference for privacy and focus on his next managerial move, free from external distractions or assumptions.

Mourinho’s remarkable track record speaks for itself, and while some may argue that he’s not at the peak of his managerial prowess, his wealth of experience and tactical acumen still make him a formidable figure in the football world.

As for Chelsea’s managerial situation, it’s crucial for the club to exercise patience and deliberation. Rushing into decisions based on temporary setbacks can often do more harm than good. Waiting until the end of the season to evaluate the current manager’s performance and make a well-considered decision is prudent and ensures stability within the club.
