Chelsea icon throws his weight in behind under fire Pochettino

John Terry backs Mauricio Pochettino to continue as Chelsea boss

It’s been a challenging journey for Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea, navigating through a myriad of issues from injuries to inconsistent performances from the squad. However, despite the rumors swirling about his potential departure, Blues’ icon John Terry believes the Argentine should stay on for another season.

In recent outings, the Blues have displayed remarkable form, culminating in impressive victories over Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United. These wins underscore Pochettino’s ability to strike the right tactical balance and extract the best from his team, propelling Chelsea to seventh place in the Premier League standings, with just two points separating them from Newcastle United.

The convincing 2-0 triumph over Tottenham, followed by a commanding 5-0 demolition of West Ham, serves as a testament to Pochettino’s tactical acumen and his capacity to inspire his players. These performances may well have swayed a significant portion of the fan base, who now advocate for giving Pochettino the opportunity to lead Chelsea into the next season.

However, former Chelsea captain Terry feels Pochettino was handed a complicated situation and his season was ravaged by injuries, and he wants to see the Argentine stay for next season. Speaking to the Mirror, he said:

‘’I have seen him work; I love the way he works; I love the way he is with the players. He certainly needs a bit of time. I think we have seen that in the last couple of weeks, the better performances we have seen, the more the players are growing into their roles and feeling like they belong at Chelsea as well. That is also going to take time, and I just think we need to be patient. I think every club needs stability.’’

Taking the helm of a young and promising team, Pochettino was well aware that the journey ahead would be fraught with challenges. One of the primary obstacles he faced was the relative inexperience of his squad, compounded by the unfortunate prevalence of injuries that often left key players unavailable. Navigating through these hurdles required not only tactical astuteness but also adept man-management skills to maximize the potential of the available talent.

John Terry wants Mauricio Pochettino to continue at Chelsea.

Pochettino’s willingness to take on this demanding task speaks volumes about his confidence in his abilities as a manager and his commitment to steering Chelsea through rough waters towards success. Despite the rocky start, his tenure has begun to bear fruit, with glimpses of promise evident in the team’s recent performances.
