A View From The Bridge

Joe Cole cites Bayer Leverkusen example to offer transfer strategy to Chelsea; tells them the one player they can’t sell

Joe Cole tells Chelsea to keep Conor Gallagher amid exit rumours

Former Chelsea player Joe Cole has urged the club board to follow Bayer Leverkusen’s transfer strategy and make wise decisions in the upcoming transfer window, and he has also suggested the club keep midfielder Conor Gallagher.

As the season has come to an end, Chelsea will embark on another busy transfer window and will have to make some rational decisions rather than just signing young players. The culmination of the current campaign highlighted one significant problem the Blues need to rectify.

However, the club will also hope to generate some profit, and we can expect many players to leave the club. Gallagher has been speculated to be leaving the Blues in the summer window, as the Blues feel his exit will bring substantial profit to the team.

However, Chelsea ex-player Cole feels the club needs to make rational decisions, take an example of the Leverkusen transfer plan, and also avoid selling Gallagher. Speaking to Team Talk, he further said:

“Conor Gallagher can’t leave. I know there are issues financially, but Conor Gallagher has been brilliant from start to finish.”

”What is very important is the recruitment in the summer. You need experience; I wouldn’t say anywhere in particular. I don’t think the club needs to add any more young players; they need experience.”

Conor Gallagher has one year left on his Chelsea contract.

Given what he has observed about Gallagher’s growth and importance to the team, Cole has made a logical statement. And at times you have to hold onto that regardless of how much money he can contribute because his importance significantly alters the team’s success. And the 24-year-old exploits in this campaign highlighted that we need to anyhow keep Gallagher.

Moreover, our transfer plan should be more prudent this time because we don’t need many signings; we just need to add some experienced players, and our squad will be well-prepared for next season. This is what Leverkusen did; they added the likes of Jonas Hofmann, Granit Xhaka, and others who helped the young team win the league.
