A View From The Bridge

Italian giants are eyeing Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino to take over at the helm ahead of next season

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino on AC Milan’s radar for potential successor of Stefano Pioli next season

If Chelsea decides to sack Mauricio Pochettino next season, the Argentine manager could get his next job, as AC Milan are now monitoring the 52-year-old situation at Stamford Bridge.

According to Italian outlet Repubblica, (h/t Calciomercato), Stefano Pioli is set to leave Milan after the end of the season, and the Serie A giants have listed a number of managers to replace Pioli at the club.

And Pochettino is among them, whose future remains unclear at Chelsea. The Argentine has had a decent tenure in his first campaign as Blues boss, and it will be interesting to see what the club’s board will decide about Pochettino’s future.

Chelsea are seventh in the Premier League and could finish the season in sixth place if they win their next matches. This could see this term end on a high despite failing to win any silverware, as it will guarantee Chelsea a European spot.

Chelsea are currently riding high as they are three games unbeaten, and his next opponent will be Roberto de Zerbi’s Brighton & Hove Albion away from home.

In his career, Pochettino has managed La Liga clubs, Premier League clubs, and Ligue 1 clubs. The Argentine manager could be managing an Italian team for the first time if he leaves Chelsea. However, given how he has turned things around at Chelsea, Chelsea would contemplate keeping him because Pochettino barely had most of the resources available this season.

Mauricio Pochettino hopes to remain at Chelsea next season.

However, given his track record of making things happen when they should, one could ask whether Chelsea should give him another season and some experienced players to add to this group. If so, perhaps he can elevate the Blues to the level of a title contender.

Meanwhile, AC Milan has performed better under Italian managers, and Roberto de Zerbi and Antonio Conte, who are both experienced in Italian football, seem like the ideal choices to take charge of the Serie A team.
