After his loan term expires, David Datro Fofana plans to rejoin Chelsea and go on a preseason tour with them. After Clarets were demoted from the league, the striker enjoyed a respectable loan spell there.
Despite arriving in January, the youngster boasts reasonable stats for the Vicent Kompany side, appearing in 15 games in the league and recording four goals and an assist. Fofana was first loaned to Union Berlin before the start of the season but had a dismal spell there.
Chelsea decided to call him back, and it appeared Fofana would remain at the Blues, but they opted to send him on loan to Burnley, where he had a great half-season as he received a chance to illustrate his qualities to the Blues’ board.
Fofana will now aim to play alongside Nicolas Jackson next season after he confirmed he wants to return to Chelsea for the upcoming campaign. Speaking to the Football Capital via Fabrizio Romano, he commented on his future:
“I think I’ll go back, and why not do the pre-season with Chelsea? In January, I wanted to stay, but some things happened. I have nothing to envy about Nico Jackson, who is also my friend.”
Fofana bounced back in style after a dismal loan stint for Union Berlin, and at Burnley, he showed what he is capable of scoring goals and showing glimpses of his qualities. It will remain to be seen if Chelsea will call him back next season or send him on another loan spell.
It’s most likely to be a loan spell as the Blues hope to get an experienced centre-forward. However, he will be hoping to play alongside Jackson, which could be doubtful as it will all depend on the Blues summer transfer window plans.
Well, Fofana could be a second option behind Jackson given how Senegalese has transformed his game and become an elite striker this season for Chelsea. Let’s see what happens in the summer.
