Fabrizio Romano gives update on Chelsea’s pursuit of Manchester City legend as new manager amid Bayern links

Fabrizio Romano confirms there has been no contact between Chelsea and Vincent Kompany over managerial spot

Fabrizio Romano provided the latest update on Chelsea rumours with Vincent Kompany who has additionally been linked with Bayer Munich job and confirmed the Belgium coach has not received a call from the Blues after the club decided to mutually part ways with Mauricio Pochettino on Tuesday.

It has come as a big shock for the fans and people after the board made the decision to part ways with the Argentine manager after just one season at the club. In his first season, the Argentine led the club to the Carabao Cup final, the FA Cup semi-final, and a sixth-place finish in the Premier League.

Pochettino was appointed after a lengthy recruitment process before the start of this season, replacing interim manager Frank Lampard, who arrived following Graham Potter’s sacking in April 2023.

Pochettino’s start to the new Chelsea season was mired with injuries, and he had to manage a youthful squad with plenty of deficiencies and no Premier League experience. He faced plenty of scrutiny over his time here and also had sacking rumours in the middle of the season.

With Pochettino gone, Chelsea will once again lead their search for a new head coach, and this time the report states they want a young coach to spearhead the club. It remains to be seen what the options will be for the Blues this summer.

Kompany does not appear to be a candidate to take over as manager and after failing to save Burnley from being relegated from the Premier League this season following just one season in the English top tier it further puts doubts on his managerial credentials. Despite being one of the best teams in the championship previous season, Kompany’s poor league performance this campaign serves as another evidence of why he is not the appropriate manager to guide this team.

The assessment of his qualifications by Chelsea following the Clarets’ league relegation will be highly speculative. Before attempting to manage a top-tier team in the league, a manager such as him would need to spend a few seasons in the Premier League gaining some expertise.
