Fabrizio Romano denies rumours of Antonio Conte possibly returning to Chelsea
Chelsea’s rollercoaster ride this season has left many questioning Mauricio Pochettino’s future at Stamford Bridge. With the Blues languishing in ninth place in the Premier League table, hopes of even securing a spot in the Europa Conference League seem bleak. Last season’s 12th-place finish was already a disappointment, especially after significant investment in the squad.
Naturally, expectations were high for a much-improved performance this time around especially with Poch coming in. However, reality has fallen short of expectations, casting a shadow of uncertainty over Pochettino‘s tenure at Chelsea. Speculation is rife with rumours linking other managers to the Stamford Bridge hot seat, and one particularly intriguing name that has surfaced is former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte. Fabrizio Romano has since then, poured cold water on these rumours, dismissing them as “absolutely not true.” Here is what he told his YouTube audience:
“Antonio Conte… guys, I’m receiving many questions about reports from Italy saying that Antonio Conte offered himself to Chelsea.”
“Antonio Conte is not offering himself to anyone. He’s not in advanced contacts or concrete contacts with English clubs, but this point about Chelsea is absolutely not true, Conte didn’t offer himself to Chelsea.”
While Conte is indeed open to new opportunities, he has not actively pursued a return to Chelsea or engaged in any concrete discussions with English clubs. The Italian tactician won the 2016-17 Premier League with the Blues and won the FA Cup the season after.
Farewell Poch, already?
So where does that leave Chelsea? Well, it’s a right old pickle. Pochettino’s still at the helm, steering the ship through choppy waters. Some reckon he’s earned the right to keep plugging away, building something special at the Bridge.
But if the powers that be decide it’s time for a change, they’ll need to cast their net wide and find someone with a clear vision for the club’s future. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves; success isn’t guaranteed, and building a top team takes more than just a big name in the dugout.
It is very important to trust Pochettino with time. Chelsea have been absolutely ruthless on that front, and the results have not been kind, ever since Roman Abramovic let go of the club’s ownership. Let’s not get there though. The focal point remains, and that is trusting the current lot with time and patience. Sure, Pochettino’s had his fair share of ups and downs this season, but sacking him at the drop of a hat won’t do Chelsea any favours in the long run.
Think about it. Building a winning team takes time, patience, and a whole lot of hard graft. And while Pochettino might not have worked miracles overnight, he’s been laying the groundwork for something special at Chelsea.

Give the man a chance to work his magic. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither is a title-winning team. Pochettino’s proven himself to be a talented manager with a clear vision for the future, and he deserves the opportunity to see his plans through. The value of stability and continuity is often underrated. Changing managers every time things don’t go according to plan is a surefire way to send the club into a tailspin.
