Chelsea to fight Manchester United to sign their Pochettino successor

Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna may soon be making the Chelsea and Manchester United transfer battle happen. According to Sky Sports, United and McKenna’s representatives have met, which has complicated matters for the Blues.

After leading Ipswich Town to consecutive promotions and a twenty-four-month climb from League One to the Premier League, Kieran McKenna appears destined to depart, but it’s unclear where he will wind up at this time.

After the FA Cup final, the Red Devils will make a choice about Erik ten Hag’s future. If they choose to fire the Dutchman, McKenna will be a possibility. The FA Cup finals appear to have an impact on Chelsea’s managerial destiny as well.

Although Chelsea are confident that McKenna will choose them over United, the Red Devils have strong connections with the boss in demand. McKenna used to be their youth academy coach and occasionally first-team assistant as well before striking out on his own.

McKenna, despite not having any senior managerial experience in the past, made a big name for himself in the football world. Selected as the 2023–24 Championship Manager of the Season, he has a 57% victory percentage in his first season leading a senior team.

Chelsea views the Ipswich boss as a successful candidate to become the coach of their club. Moreover, he fits Todd Boehly’s transfer criteria, as he is only 38 years old and could be a success for the Blues in the long run.

McKenna could certainly be a huge success for the Blues

The sudden departure of Pochettino has diverted all the transfer priorities of the club towards signing a new manager this summer. While they have a few necessary changes to make in the squad, they cannot move ahead with them until they get themselves a new boss first.

More Chelsea news

Chelsea needs to make their interest more concrete as soon as possible, as they would not like to lose such a talented candidate to the Red Devils. It will be intriguing to see where the Ipswich boss lands this summer, with two Premier League giants lining up for him.
