Thiago Silva will play his last game in the Chelsea jersey on Sunday at Stamford Bridge. The centre-back will be riding high on emotions as his five years at the club come to an end, giving his all to the team.
However, there will be a lot of reservations about who will replace Silva in the future season, as the Blues will struggle to locate a defender. Interestingly, next season, it might be one of our defenders.
As Chelsea cruised to a narrow 2-1 win against Brighton & Hove Albion last night, Silva took to Instagram and posted a photo appreciating fans’ support with the caption, ‘’ Very important result today. We will give it our all in the final game. Thank you for supporting us. See you on Sunday.’’
Chalobah made sure Silva knew how highly he rates him and commented, ‘’Idolo.’’ When we talk about Chalobah’s future at the club, the Blues were keen on selling him last summer, with Bayern Munich and Nottingham Forest interested in signing him.
However, the 24-year-old remained at the club but picked up an injury that kept him out the majority of the season, and since his return, the England international hasn’t shown that he was out for so long.
Mauricio Pochettino now has a player who provides steadiness and formidableness at the back. Chalobah is a notable player on the team because he plays with composure and his line-threading passes are what makes him a standout player in the squad. Can he be Silva’s heir, though?
Well, we will only learn that in the summer window because if Chelsea decides to keep him, Chalobah will be instrumental for us next season, and if he avoids injury, he is certainly one of the top defenders.
He has been playing for Chelsea since Thoams Tuchel and has become an underrated player with plenty of experience. Given how proactive Chalobah is in every game, Pochettino will use the defender if he stays.
