Mason Mount shared his photo with the FA Cup trophy after Manchester United beat Manchester City 2-1 in the final on Saturday lunchtime. The former Chelsea midfielder shared the photo on Instagram with the caption, ‘’ Ending a frustrating 2023/24 with a trophy. Your support pushed us all the way today, as it has all season. Thank you, United.’’
Chelsea loanee Ian Maatsen congratulated his ex-teammate on the post with a comment, ‘’ Congratulations bro,’’ with a clapping and black heart emoji. Maatsen, who is on loan to Borussia Dortmund, has a chance to win the Champions League final when his side takes on Real Madrid on June 1.
Meanwhile, Mount’s move to United has seen him endure a dismal season after failing to remain fit during the entire season. The midfielder left Chelsea last summer and was given No. 7, but it seems like he has failed to live up to the hype.
The midfielder has only appeared in 14 Premier League games this season, with a goal to his name. Maatsen has been Dortmund’s most important player, playing a crucial role in helping them secure a place in the Champions League final.
It will be a big moment for Maatsen, who barely played in the first half of the season at Chelsea only to become an integral part of Dortmund after joining them in January and to have a chance to get his hands on his first European glory. Mount had a different season as he had many setbacks with injuries.
The midfielder will be hoping to remain fit for United next season, on the other hand, the Blues will aim to sell Maatsen in the summer as they have already made a decision on his future. Meanwhile, Chelsea continue their hunt for a manager after making a top-four shortlist to replace departed Mauricio Pochettino.
Chelsea finished sixth in the Premier League under the Argentine manager and will play in the play-offs in the UEFA Conference League after United beat City and Secure Europa League. A win will see them play in the competition next season.
