LONDON. IS. BLUE. Glad to see the Chelsea boys keep their performance up against Tottenham as we breezed past Ange Postecoglou’s side securing a crucial 2-0 victory and also denting Spurs’ chances of a UCL finish. Among our best players on the night was left-back Marc Cucurella, who had absolute control of the tempo of the game, and played a huge role in keeping Tottenham’s pacy wingers out of the game.
Brennan Johnson was as good as unavailable with Cucurella comfortably pocketing him throughout the 90. Trevoh Chalobah and Nicolas Jackson were on target for Mauricio Pochettino’s side securing a much-needed positive result amid the broader uncertainty surrounding the club’s managerial situation at the moment. In the aftermath of the game, Cucurella took to Instagram to post about the win.
Noting that London was blue, and rightly so, Cucurella, on Instagram, posted four pictures from one of his best performances in a Chelsea shirt. Commenting on his post, his defensive partner Benoit Badiashile posted a comment, commending the top-class game the both of them had.
The former Brighton man, in 55 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions, has a goal and three assists to his name. We have yet to see the consistent best of the player, and hopefully, this performance against Tottenham is just a start for the 25-year-old Spaniard.
But while Cucurella’s performance against Tottenham was nothing short of outstanding, it’s worth noting that he still has a long way to go before he can dethrone Ben Chilwell as a regular starter in the Chelsea lineup. Chilwell, with his experience and proven track record, remains the undisputed first-choice left-back when fit.
However, that’s not to say that Cucurella doesn’t have immense potential. He’s already shown glimpses of his talent and also, his ability to make an impact at the highest level. He possesses all the attributes to become a key player for Chelsea in the years to come.
But for now, Cucurella will have to bide his time and continue working hard to earn his place in the starting lineup. Competition for places is fierce at Chelsea, and he’ll need to consistently perform at a high level to stake his claim for a regular spot in the team.
That being said, Cucurella’s performance against Tottenham certainly serves as a reminder of his potential and the valuable depth he adds to the squad. With players like him pushing for places, it surely only bodes well for Chelsea’s ambitions on all fronts.
