Chelsea eyeing Antonio Conte return as Pochettino’s future in doubt
Chelsea FC have been vying for a possible managerial change in the summer transfer window, and the Blues have reportedly sent a lucrative offer to bring back Italian manager Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge, per La Repubblica.
Mauricio Pochettino is under massive pressure to continue at Chelsea beyond the upcoming summer as Todd Boehly & Co. contemplate a possible managerial change after a poor season the club has incurred under the Argentine. While any decisions around the managerial role won’t be made until the season’s concluded, reports suggest the Blues have already started looking for possible alternatives if the former PSG manager were to be relieved of his duties.
While multiple managers have been linked with a move to West London, the surprise name of Conte has popped up around the rumour mill off late.
From rival to saviour? Chelsea considering Conte as a managerial replacement
Antonio Conte has previously enjoyed a successful time at West London, where he won the Premier League and FA Cup during his tenure with the club. The former Juventus coach was sacked by the former management of Chelsea in 2018.
The 54-year-old has since gone on to manage Chelsea’s Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur, by whom he was sacked in March last year. He has been job-seeking since.
Italian paper La Repubblica indicates that the Premier League giants have been in “close contact” with Conte lately, and they consider the former manager a serious contender to take over Mauricio Pochettino‘s chair.
Bringing Conte to Stamford Bridge comes with its own difficulty, as the West Londoners will have to beat the competition to acquire his services. The Italian has been linked with reported concrete interests from AC Milan and Napoli.
