Chelsea lose one managerial option with highly-rated European manager on his way to Barcelona

Chelsea managerial target Hansi Flick is closing on becoming next Barcelona coach

Chelsea remains in search of a new manager in order to locate a perfect head coach to take over for the departed Mauricio Pochettino at the club. The Blues have been linked to many names, but they are still looking for the right manager.

With the managerial list short, the club might have missed out on German head coach Hansli Flick who is now close to joining Barcelona after the Catalans’ relationship with Xavi worsened this month and has subsequently intensified.

According to Guillem Balague, via Mirror, the Barcelona chief has held talks with Flick for a long time and sees him as Xavi’s successor, who is on the verge of being sacked despite announcing he will continue at the club. The former Barcelona player earlier revealed he would leave the club, but the board managed to convince him to stay.

However, things have taken a u-turn, and now the former Spanish player could be sacked anytime, and his potential successor is set to be the former German manager Flick. The Blues have been linked with a move for the former Bayern Munich as next head coach in the summer, but it seems like Flick will be heading to Barcelona for his next job.

Meanwhile, the Blues have added the likes of Kieran McKenna, Enzo Maresca, Sporting’s Ruben Amorim, and former Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi. Well, Flick stands out among these managers; his attractive style of play makes him an intriguing head coach and what he achieved with Bayern Munich.

Despite Flick’s success at Bayern, where he turned them into a dominant force in all competitions and won sextuplets, he couldn’t replicate it at the German national team and failed to steer them to success as they were out of the Group stages of FIFA 2022 Wolrd Cup.

However, he is still a highly-rated coach, and his system makes him well-suited for this young side because he likes his side to play with intense pressing, and his system is likened to Carlo Ancelotti. Not using too many tactical aspects and giving his players direct instruction allows them to play with freedom on the pitch.
