A View From The Bridge

Chelsea interested in signing 19-year-old Brazilian striker; two other PL clubs also in the race

Chelsea monitoring Barcelona striker Vitor Roque’s situation

As per Mirror, Chelsea have been alerted after the availability of Vitor Roque, whose time at Barcelona has started on a sore note after completing a move to the Spanish club in January for a £52.5 million fee from Paranaense.

Since joining Barcelona, Roque has been barely used by Xavi, which has now made his future at the club uncertain, and to make things worse, his agent blasted the Spanish coach for not using the centre-forward.

Since then, things have become significantly more dire, with the Brazilian’s prospects of playing for the team next season appearing increasingly bleak. Next season, the Catalan giants intend to send him on loan, but his agent hit out at the club and claimed they don’t want his agent to be loaned to any club; instead, he will leave permanently.

Before moving to Barcelona, the striker was tracked by the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United, and now they can once again revive their interest.

Roque has produced two goals in 13 appearances for Barcelona and is a highly-rated centre-forward in the world. However, it remains to be seen what Barcelona will decide about his future, but given that they spend a lot of money on him, it appears doubtful that they will entertain any sales for him.

Meanwhile, for Chelsea, it doesn’t make sense to sign him because we already have Nicolas Jackson, who has been impressive this season, scoring 14 Premier League goals, so what’s the point of adding another young striker when we already have one who is thriving in the league?

If the Blues hope to bring a striker next summer, they should look for a more experienced and reliable centre-forward. However, how Jackson has performed this campaign now really puts into question if we really need a striker next season.

He performed better in his debut season and we anticipate he will undoubtedly get better in the next year. Therefore, we ought to hold off on signing Roque and instead use the summer transfer window to strengthen other areas.
