Chelsea given Conor Gallagher sale deadline for PSR purposes as new PL club join Tottenham in transfer race

Chelsea forced to sell Conor Gallagher before PSR deadline to the interested clubs

Chelsea are in the market, desperate to sell Conor Gallagher as they are facing the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Regulations (PSR), which gave them a deadline of June 30 to raise £100million in player sales to avoid any fine.

Gallagher, being a Chelsea homegrown player who graduated from Chelsea youth, could show a pure profit in the books of PSR. But the Blues need to move fast, as they need to have sales before the deadline.

Over the years, Gallagher developed into a key player for Chelsea, due to which Mauricio Pochettino was resisting the sale of the star. Pochettino’s continuous questioning of Todd Boehly’s methods got him out of the club, though.

Conor Gallagher is being considered by Aston Villa as they aim to bolster their roster in anticipation of the Champions League campaign the following year, while Chelsea is willing to deal because of the Profit and Sustainability Regulations.

Villa realises Chelsea’s situation and could take advantage of them sealing the deal with a low transfer fee, keeping in mind they have a deadline to meet. Due to their own pressures of being at the restrictions, the Birmingham club would not want to pay a premium for the Blues player, which would complicate any further deals.

Villa’s manager, Unai Emery, feels Gallagher may complement their new approach. Tottenham Hotspur is also considering the 24-year-old, though their interest does not seem to be much concrete.

Chelsea fans wouldn’t like to see their homegrown player leave

After on-loan stints at Crystal Palace, West Brom, Charlton, and Swansea, Gallagher has already appeared in almost 100 games for Chelsea. At 24, he still has a lot of growth left in him until he reaches his prime.

Gallagher is a selfless midfielder who gives it his all on the pitch. He’s almost a manager’s dream to have in the lineup. His importance to the team is demonstrated by the fact that, at the young age of 23, he was awarded the captain’s armband.

Chelsea is most likely valuing Gallagher at around £50million. If it weren’t for Boehly’s unlimited spending on all the expensive transfers, they wouldn’t be at this stage, desperate to sell one of their key players.
