Chelsea target Viktor Gyokeres set to be out for six weeks after undergoing knee surgery

Chelsea target Viktor Gyokeres is set to be on the sidelines for an extended period of time as he will undergo knee surgery, which will keep him out until six weeks. With Sweden out, it was better for him to recover until the start of the new season.

According to Sports TV, via Express, Gyokeres enjoyed a prolific season, scoring 43 goals in 50 appearances in all competitions, which attracted plenty of clubs, including Chelsea, but the recent blow to the forward’s injury could see the club explore other options.

The striker has been playing with pain for the past six months and opted to undergo surgery, which was the best option after the end of the season. This could change Chelsea’s position in pursuit of Gyokeres, who have endured many injury problems last season and would avoid an injury-prone player.

Chelsea have made no secret plans to add a clinical striker in the summer and even departed Mauricio Pochettino voiced his opinion on signing a striker. Following his exit, newly appointed manager Enzo Maresca will have his say on acquiring a new centre-forward.

The Blues have been linked with the likes of Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney, but currently, nothing is concrete, as the club will start their summer plans once the club announces the appointment of Maresca. Gyokeres has an £86 million release clause.

Gyokeres made a wise decision and opted to go for surgery when the season came to an end. With Sweden already out of Euro 2024, it will provide the rest of the off-season with rest and help him recover. But now Chelsea will be cautious with their approach, as knee injuries are always risky and keep you out for months.

Knee injuries are a recurring ailment because once you suffer that injury it keeps happening as we saw with Christopher Nkunku who picked a knee injury in France training before FIFA World Cup 2022 and then in last year’s pre-season. This will create big doubts if the Blues still continue their pursuit of Swedish.

The Swedish has been an emerging talent this season, and his goalscoring prowess will certainly keep him one to look out for in the summer transfer window. Chelsea would want a striker who fits the bill of a top finisher. Gyokeres will be fit before the start of a new season and will be ready to hit the ground running. now it will be up to the club’s board to decide on his signing.
